Of all of the things the NBPA does for its members, none is
more important than protecting players’ rights and benefits.
The Legal Department drafts, analyzes and interprets the Collective
Bargaining Agreement and champions the players’ rights
when the league or a team runs afoul of the terms of the Agreement.
The Legal Department’s responsibilities include:
Processing grievances filed on behalf of players against teams
and the NBA when they interfere with or infringe upon a player’s
rights and benefits;
Counseling players and agents about player rights and benefits;
Assisting players and agents in negotiating players’
individual contracts;
Prosecuting player agents who fail to comply with the NBPA
Regulations Governing Player Agents; and
Assisting the Executive Director in Collective Bargaining.
