NBPA Partners with Andalucia to Host “The Sanctuary”, a Performance Retreat for Players

This collaboration brings NBPA members to Andalucia, Spain for a unique training and cultural experience from July 25-29

NEW YORK, NY, July 25, 2022 – The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Andalucia, Spain to host “The Sanctuary”, a performance retreat for players that begins today and will go through July 29, 2022.

As part of this collaboration, the NBPA and a group of its members will visit the region this week for a retreat comprised of basketball and cultural activities. The players will visit Andalucia and hold training sessions at the Training Center Higueron, called “The Embassy”, in Fuengirola, Spain, a brand-new state-of-the-art facility that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

During the weeklong retreat, NBPA members will also have the opportunity to engage in activities off of the basketball court, allowing them to explore Andalucia and learn more about the rich culture and history of the region.

“The off-season is such a critical time for our players, during which they put in the work to build the next version of themselves, both on and off the court,” said Matteo Zuretti, the NBPA’s Chief of International Relations & Marketing. “We are excited that through this partnership we will be able to offer them a best-in-class training experience while they discover the culture of one of the top destinations in the World and become even more educated global citizens.”

“I am thrilled to be working with the NBPA to bring their players to Andalucia and introduce them to the culture of the region,” said Jose María Arrabal, the Secretary-General of Sports for Andalucia. “As a community, we are excited and honored to host these great ambassadors of the game and we are hopeful that their experience will be outstanding and leave a lasting legacy in the region’s sports ecosystem.”
